Matinee with Bob and Ray first airs.

1946

The 15-minute comedy show (later expanded to a half hour) airs on WHDH Radio. An outgrowth of impromptu conversations between disc jockey and Boston native Bob Elliott and newscaster Ray Goulding held to fill time during rain delays during Red Sox games, it includes the character of man-on-the-street reporter Wally Ballou (voiced by Elliott) interviewing whacky characters (voiced by Goulding). The show moves to NBC radio in New York in 1951 and continues, off and on in various versions. Its last incarnation airs on PBS from 1982 to 1987. The pair do a Broadway show, The Two And Only, in 1970.
